Landgestüt Celle

Niedersächsisches Landgestüt Celle is one of Germany's oldest state studs, founded in 1735 and based in Celle, Lower Saxony. The stud keeps and presents around 80 licensed stallions and operates an extensive network of breeding and insemination stations across the region, offering semen ordering, breeding consultation and artificial insemination alongside its annual stallion presentations and popular Summer Festival. Its performance-testing station in nearby Adelheidsdorf — the oldest stallion performance-testing facility still operating in Germany — trains and evaluates young breeding stallions, with the testing programme continually refined together with the University of Göttingen and the German Equestrian Federation (FN). The Adelheidsdorf site provides extensive modern facilities, including three indoor riding halls, three outdoor arenas (one with an ebb-and-flow watering system) and 32 hectares of training grounds with a 1,000-metre cross-country course and a 2,000-metre gallop track. Stallion training there is led by head saddle master Wolfhard Witte and a team of accomplished advanced-level riders. A public institution under Lower Saxony's agriculture ministry, the Landgestüt remains a central pillar of horse breeding in northern Germany.
